Andrew C. Cobb, D.D.S. – Diplomate, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM)

Welcome. This page is designed specifically for sleep physicians, cardiologists, pulmonologists, and other medical providers who manage patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other sleep-disordered breathing conditions.

If you have patients who are CPAP-intolerant, non-adherent, or looking for an alternative therapy, I am here to serve as your clinical partner in dental sleep medicine.

My Clinical Background & Credentials

I have been practicing and teaching dentistry for over 40 years, focusing on restorative, esthetic, TMD, and airway issues. After seeing the profound effect airway disorders can have on a patient’s overall and dental health, I completed numerous airway-related mini-residencies, including an Airway Mini-Residency at Tufts University.

This advanced training led to my achieving Diplomate status with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM), the gold standard credential in dental sleep medicine. I am well-trained in the use of custom oral appliances and Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) to help patients diagnosed with OSA.

My Referral & Treatment Protocol (ABDSM-Aligned)

I follow the referral and treatment protocols of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine to ensure that patients with sleep-disordered breathing receive continuous physician oversight. Below is my exact process:

  1. I refer the patient to a medical physician for examination, testing, and diagnosis of possible sleep disorders.
  2. Once I receive a letter of medical necessity, I will treat the patient with the appropriate OAT. A copy of the sleep report is helpful to determine the appropriate treatment plan.
  3. I provide the patient with OAT, titration, and patient education. I also provide any pre-OAT dental care, if necessary.
  4. I maintain constant communication and provide progress reports to the patient’s physician.
  5. Once OAT is completed, I refer the patient back to their physician for final evaluation and potential re-testing.
  6. My office uses a third-party medical billing service to try and maximize patients’ insurance reimbursement.
  7. Once treatment in my office is completed, patient follow-up is scheduled at 6 months and then yearly.

What This Means For You (The Referring Physician)

  • You remain in control: I never treat without your diagnosis and medical necessity letter.
  • You receive closed-loop communication: I send progress reports so you know exactly what your patient is receiving.
  • Your CPAP-intolerant patients have a real alternative: One that is evidence-based and reimbursable.
  • Medical billing support: We assist patients with insurance claims, reducing their barriers to care.

If you have other patients you feel may benefit from oral appliance therapy, I would welcome the opportunity to establish a long-term relationship with you and your practice and build a dynamic referral network.

Thank you for considering a partnership. Together, we can improve outcomes for patients who struggle with OSA therapy.
